About us
My name is Abbey and I have a passion for ensuring young adults with special needs are provided with equal opportunities. I am starting up a social club for adults aged 18-35 yrs with special needs. The Grayble Social Club is aimed at adults with MLD. However, if an adult does have a more severe need and has a 1:1 carer they are also more than welcome to join and their carer can come along for free!
For a long time, I have felt that young adults with special needs are provided with fewer opportunities the older they get and this is just not fair!
I want to make a change and this is why I have set up The Grayble Social Club. The name of the club comes from the surname of my brother-in-law Michael Gray as he is my inspiration.
I have over 10 years of experience of working in schools with special needs pupils and to me, it is the most rewarding job. Each day I learn something new and that only makes my desire to open The Grayble Social Club even stronger. In our local community, there is simply not enough for SEN adults anymore and it has to change and if I can make that change I will!
My aim is to make my local community more inclusive and to make more special needs young adults feel like they are part of a community. I will create links for them to explore and I will provide an environment in which they can have more social communications and have an opinion.
The activities at The Grayble Social Club will be chosen by members and they will have the opportunity to run activities too.
Join me on my adventure because together we ARE able.
